Australia is a big, beautiful country with a wealth of natural wonders to experience. The nation’s people are definitely keen to take advantage of this wonderful fact, with RV owners reportedly taking an average of 12 million trips and spending 51 million nights camping in them just in the last year! Travelling in an RV is a wonderful way to experience the island continent’s vast landscape, they provide a home away from home on wheels that offers comfort while carrying you on the road to adventure!
One of the best things about taking a trip in an RV is that you have a kitchen onboard! There’s no need to search for a restaurant, or make a cookfire at your campsite (unless you want to!), you can make a real meal wherever you stop! Today’s RVs come with a real, modern kitchen complete with everything you need, a stove and oven covered by caravan rangehoods, a refrigerator, and even the kitchen sink! It’s fun to make dinner in your RV kitchen then eat it under the awning while you drink in the sights and sounds of the natural world around your campsite! Now that we have whetted your appetite, we would like to share some of our favourites recipes for the road with you!
A Big Brekkie – That’s how Aussies say “breakfast” and they love to start the day right with a hearty fry-up that will keep you going for a long day on the road! Throw some butter in your skillet and fry up some farm fresh eggs, smoky bacon, grilled tomatoes, and mushrooms along with a heaping helping of delicious baked beans. Throw in some hash brown potatoes to complete this delicious morning feast! Serve with a steaming cup of coffee and lot’s of fresh air!
Smashed Avo on Toast – Here’s another classic Aussie brekkie treat that has been gaining popularity all around the world! Split a nice, ripe avocado down the middle, take out the stone, and scoop that creamy green flesh out to spread on a piece of warm toast! Sprinkle on a dash of sea salt and black pepper, and some chopped chilli to give it a bit of spice. This is a great brekkie for those mornings when you need something quick before you break camp and get an early start on the day’s journey!
Bubble & Squeak – It sounds hilarious to our visitors from other lands, but this Aussie version of a Frittata is no laughing matter once you take a bite, you won’t stop until the last crumb! This is a great way to cook up those leftover baked potatoes, just chop them up with some cabbage and carrots, smash it all together with a fork, then sauté the mixture in butter until it’s all nicely golden brown, and a little crispy around the edges. You will soon understand how it got it’s name as you fry it up! Serve with tomato sauce and a dash of your favourite hot sauce
