We wanted to take a moment to share how we’ve grown over these nine years, and to say thanks to every customer, trade partner, and local business who’s been part of the journey.
How It Started: Lee McCarthy’s Flooring Roots
Our founder, Lee McCarthy, didn’t start out in an office. He began on the tools, as a floor layer back in 1999.
Laying floors across homes and businesses for stores like Carpet Right, and Tapi Carpets. He saw firsthand what customers wanted (and what frustrated them). He learned about materials, fit, finish, and all the little details that make a floor last and look its best.
But Lee also had another skill: he knew his way around technology. He had a vision early on of taking that real-world flooring knowledge and combining it with web development and SEO know-how to create something different.
Instead of pushing customers into a showroom with limited hours and pushy sales pitches, he wanted to build an online platform where people could explore flooring comfortably from their own sofas—no rush, no pressure, just clear information and proper service.
Built on Hard Work (Not Slick Promises)
Floor Land didn’t spring up overnight.
The early years were full of long days (and nights) spent writing honest product descriptions, adding thousands of high res images, testing SEO strategies, and building relationships with many high quality brands.
Lee and the team would pack orders themselves in the warehouse, field calls from customers needing advice, and work with local tradesmen to make sure they had what they needed to keep their businesses moving.
That foundation of hard work is still there today. We don’t hide behind automated chatbots or faceless call centres. When you get in touch, you’re talking to real people with real flooring experience—people who know what they’re selling because they’ve installed it themselves.
A Family-Orientated Team
